A Day in the Life: Part 3

We've been moving right along in our market preparations. After we go through all our fabric culls and pick the fabrics we think would go well in our line, our next step is to start putting together combinations to show at market.

We start by laying out the fabrics that made it through all of the culls in the floor.
Here's just a few of the contenders for our Parisian Loft Collection

Then, we start putting the puzzle together. We begin with whatever fabrics we love, whether it be a solid, or a print, and work from there. We pin everything we like up on our planning wall under what we call, "The Lights of Truth!" These halogen light bulbs help us see the true colors of the fabrics which makes matching colors easier.

Next, we start putting together combinations. This solid with that plain, this accent fabric with this combination, and so on. We have to consider what frame we want to put the fabric on, if the style of the fabric matches the style of the frame, and what price point we need to be at.

Here we are trying to find solids and accents with prints that we love. What colors do we want to pull out? What textures do we want to accent with, a velvet, a mohair, a leather? Is this black too dark? This this cream too yellow? It's all a game, but we love every bit of it!

Here are some combinations we put together for Fall Market. What do you think of them?

Stay tuned for Part of our series 4 to find out how we layout the showroom and add the finishing touches to each setting.
